FLOWERS FROM NOWHERE
EFFECT:
The magician produces a thirty-six inch square silk. He covers his hand
with the silk and movement is seen beneath the silk. Upon removing the
silk, he is discovered to have been wiggling his finger. The magician
the points to the silk at his side. Bringing the silk to the forefront,
a beautiful bouquet of flowers appears from within the folds of the silk.
PREPARATION: Load a sleeve bouquet in a load tube in your right sleeve making sure that the pull ring extends from the bottom of the tube. Fasten the load tube inside your sleeve, using a safety pins top and bottom to hold the tube to your sleeve. Make sure that the tube is positioned in your sleeve so that the pull ring can be engaged with the thumb of your opposite hand. An alternate method, while somewhat harder on the flowers, is much easier to do. With your jacket off, grasp the load ring in your hand in your hand. Have an assistant help you on with your jacket. Let go of the pull ring just before your hand emerges from your jacket sleeve.
PERFORMANCE: Produce a silk using "your favorite method". Cover your right hand with the silk, centering it over your hand. Wiggle your finger under the silk. Gesturing in a fluttering motion with your free hand suggests that there is something alive under the silk. Pointing at your right hand, grasp the pull ring through the silk and quickly lower the silk with the bouquet under it to your left side. Keep looking at your right hand and wiggling your finger to show the audience what was really under the silk. This provides needed misdirection and always draws a laugh from the audience. While holding it under the silk by the pull ring, tip the bouquet toward your rear to keep it hidden. Look at your left hand as you slowly bring the silk and the bouquet to the forefront. As you bring the bouquet forward, bring it to the upright position.
CURTAIN CALL: This is a great effect for dove workers to include in their act. Wiggling the finger is a bit of business that I have used for years. The audience always gets a laugh when I pull the silk off my hand to reveal what really caused the movement.
